Want to build your own robot but never written a single line of code? Start right here. This is Episode 1 of my beginner-friendly robotics course, where we go from zero to a real line follower robot and an obstacle avoidance robot. Today we install the Arduino IDE, connect an Arduino Nano (or Uno) to the PC, upload your very first program (Blink), understand every line of it, and then change it to make it our own. No coding experience needed. 🤖💡

Every robot starts with one tiny blinking light. This is the "Hello World" of electronics and robotics, and once it works on your desk, you're ready for sensors, motors and full robot builds.

✅ In this Arduino tutorial you'll learn:
• What an Arduino is (a microcontroller) and how its pins control LEDs and read sensors
• What an IDE is and how to download and install the Arduino IDE
• How to fix "board not detected" with the right USB to UART driver
• A tour of the IDE: sketch area, Verify, Upload and board selector
• How to select your board and COM port
• How to upload the Blink example (plus the Old Bootloader fix for Nano clones)
• What void setup(), void loop(), pinMode, digitalWrite and delay() actually do
• How to change the blink speed, and why 10 ms is too fast for your eyes

🧰 What you need for this episode
• Arduino Nano or Arduino Uno (original or clone)
• A USB cable that carries data (not a charge-only cable)
• A computer (Windows, macOS or Linux)
• Optional: Nano expansion board or a breadboard
We only use the built-in LED (marked "L" on the board), so no wiring yet.

💻 The code
Arduino IDE: File - Examples - 01.Basics - Blink
setup() runs once when the board powers on, and loop() repeats forever. pinMode sets LED_BUILTIN as an OUTPUT, digitalWrite turns it HIGH (on) or LOW (off), and delay(1000) waits 1000 ms (1 second). Change it to delay(100) and it blinks 10 times faster.

🛠️ Upload problems? Try these
1. No COM port showing: try a data USB cable and install the USB to UART driver for your board's chip (CP210x or CH340, links below). Close the IDE first, then reopen it.
2. Nano upload fails: Tools - Processor - ATmega328P (Old Bootloader).
3. Still stuck? Paste your error in the comments and I'll help.

🎯 Your challenge
Using the built-in LED, blink SOS in Morse code: 3 short blinks, 3 long blinks, then 3 short blinks again, on repeat. You already know everything you need from the double-blink example. Solve it and tell me in the comments!

📚 What's next in the course
Next episode we deep dive into the code: what setup and loop really do, why semicolons matter, loops, if conditionals, arrays and how Arduino code works behind the scenes. After that: sensors (IR, sound), actuators, the mechanical side, and finally custom PCBs for the line follower sensor array and main board.

❓ FAQ
Do I need to know programming? No. We start from zero.
Nano or Uno? Either works. Just select the right board in the IDE.
